So, you found a new house? How exciting! Before you get to enjoy your new house, you first have to pack up all your stuff and move it from the new location. Moving always requires lots of careful planning and can be quite overwhelming unless you hired movers for professional help.

Otherwise, it can be difficult to figure out where to start with the moving process. You may have lots of questions: when should I start packing? What should I pack first? What is the best way to pack my clothes and breakable dishes?

Even if you’re a seasoned mover, (because let’s be real, we all have to move at some point in our lives) there are always things you can learn to make the process easier. Here are the eight best moving tips and hacks to make this experience a breeze.

Tip #1: Label Your Moving Boxes

One of the simplest moving tips and hacks is to label your boxes. Don’t just write what’s in the box, also write which room the items in the box belong. That way when you’re moving the boxes and get to your new house, you can place all of the boxes in the right room.

This will save you from having to deal with a wall of boxes in your living room and not knowing where to start. All of the boxes will already be in the rooms they belong in, making the process so much easier. You can thank us later!

Tip #2: Use Garbage Bags to Pack Your Clothes

A great moving hack that we think will come in handy is packing your clothes that are on hangers in your closet in garbage bags. To do this, simply make a hole in the bottom of a garbage bag, flip it upside down, and slip it over a group of hangers.

Use a rubber band to wrap all of the hangers together at the top and you have a really simple and easy way to pack those clothes. This will make it so that you don’t have to remove the clothes from the hangers, fold them, pack them, and then hang them up on hangers again once you get to your new house!

Tip #3: Use a Clear Plastic Bin to Pack Essentials

For the next moving tip, get yourself one of those clear plastic bins and use it to pack up your essentials. This way, you can see what is in the bin before opening it and going through it.

By putting your essentials in there, it will be easy to access all of the things you will need right away once you get to your new house. We always have some extra bits that we need to put somewhere right before we leave the old house, so this also serves as a spot where you can put those items.

Tip #4: Place a Cotton Ball into Your Cosmetics

Have you ever travelled with cosmetics like your foundation or bronzer, only to get to your destination and find that all of your powder has broken apart? Ensure this never happens again by placing a cotton ball into your cosmetics so they can’t break! Genius, right?

Tip #5: Use Toilet Paper Rolls to Organize Your Cords

We all have tons of cords and wires around our homes. An easy way to pack these up to ensure they don’t get all tangled is to pack each cord in a toilet paper roll. Not only will this hack keep you super organized, but it will also make unpacking your cords a breeze.

Tip #6: Wrap Breakable Dishes in Clothing

By wrapping your breakable dishes in clothes, you’re killing two birds with one stone. Not only are you packing up your dishes, but you’re also packing your clothes too. This method of packing dishes will keep your dishes nice and safe and also allow you to save on packing paper.

Another great moving hack is to pack your glasses and stemware in socks. This way, they’ll fit nice and snug and you won’t have to worry about your favourite wine glasses breaking. It’s a win-win!

Tip #7: Cut Handles into Cardboard Boxes

If the boxes you used to pack all of your stuff in don’t have handles, a good hack is to manually cut handles into the sides of your boxes. This will make transporting the boxes so much easier!

Tip #8: Use Plastic Bags to Store Small Pieces

While moving, you’ll be taking many things apart including shelves, removing paintings from walls, and taking bedframes apart. You’ll want to keep all of the pieces safe, but it could be hard to find somewhere to store these. That’s where plastic bags come in.

Use these to store all of those loose ends and then for things like painting and artwork, tape them to the back so that you have everything you need to hang them up in your new home.
