Adam and I just returned from a few days in Arkansas where we camped for a night, spent time with family, skied and sunbathed, ate lots of watermelon and taught Harper, our dog, to swim. The Shangri-la Resort on Lake Ouachita is where my family has vacationed for over 20 years now. Much less of a resort, more of a fishing camp from the 1950s. Simple, quaint and family-owned with a beautiful view of the lake. It’s my happy place. And it is so fun to now share with Adam and our puppy. We were a little late on a July 4th lake trip this year, but this past week was just as fun. Adam and I headed to Lake Ouachita a day early and camped in the summer heat- a memory, for sure, but not something I recommend. The lake stays cool, almost chilly, year round, so we made sure to spend most of every day in the water. Mornings were spent by a campfire or with a cup of tea in hand and evenings were spent enjoying dinner with family, pie for dessert and playing cards.

My brother is especially talented at wake boarding and wake surfing, so he showed off a few of his new tricks. And Adam quickly mastered wake surfing as well. In between skiing and wake boarding, we would scout out shady coves with rocky beaches where we would relax for a bit or enjoy a picnic lunch. Both our dog, Harper, and my parents’ dog, Charlie, had free reign to explore and swim which they loved.
